What do you get when you take the groovy vibes of a saxophone, the rhythmic tones of some kick-ass drums, and a little bit of bass-heavy raging sprinkled on top?? Big Gigantic (Big G). Making the trip to St. Louis to stop in for Budweiser’s “Made in America” music tour proved to be one hell of a journey for a Tuesday night, and not to mention it was free to anyone that could make it in.
Upon walking up and noticing the line that wrapped around the building, excitement immediately filled the air and the eagerness of the 21 and up crowd was more than obvious. Tickets got scanned, wristbands were applied, friendly welcomes from the staff of the Pageant poured out left and right, and the atmosphere inside proved clear that fun was about to begin.
Walking into the venue was something that seemed to be like little taste of heaven. A smoke screen entrance lined the only doorway leading to the music built anticipation of what was waiting for us on the other side; and what was waiting for us proved to be better than anything we could have expected.
Immediately after walking through the smoke, fans were offered some cold Budweiser products by a promotional team. With refreshments in hand, the sounds from inside the venue quickly drew us to the dance floor.
With no DJ and only a background set playlist playing that included some trap mixes and house tones, fans stood in awe of the visuals of the environment and character of the venue. The pure energy in the air had the crowd already vibin’ as if the show had been going for hours.
Did I mention everything was FREE?! Pizza, ice cream, and even beer; all free!
Now I’ll get to why everyone was in attendance besides the free party favors…the music. Robert Delong opened up for an eager crowd that was bass hungry and visually ready to be amazed. His set included some melodic house music style tones including the crowd favorite “Global Concepts” that set the mood off right.
Shortly after Robert DeLong put on his stellar set, Big G took the stage to blow the place up the rest of the night. Luckily, we were able to make our way through the crowd and got our hands on the front railing to ensure we had one of the best spots in the house.
Budweiser then played a short video, which included recaps of the “Made in America” music tour they have been putting on around the country, and then the true fun began. Big Gigantic hit the stage, Dominic Lalli with his saxophone in hand, Jeremy Salken with his drumsticks, and a line of subs located under the stage kicked on to propel an electronic feel with a groovy vibe, right away.
If you’ve never had the privilege of seeing Big G live, it’s truly a memorable performance that has a little bit of everything to satisfy any music fan. At times you’ll be lost in the beauty, and then you’ll find yourself throwing your hands in the air in an absolute rage. It is a perfect mixture of the beauty of music and the dirty bass drops which gives you an out-of-control sensation.
The set included original songs such as “Sky High”, “It’s Going Down”, and “The World Is Yours.” Some personal favorites like “I Need Dollar Remix” and a remix of Jay Z’s “Can I Get A…” got my arms up in the air and my fists pumping. Two large video screens located on both sides of the crowd panned in and out on Big G while they were doing their thing. The deep bass hits came in waves, and the vibin’ from the crowd ran strong as it was easy to get lost in the euphoric environment.
As the quote goes “We let go, so the beat takes control.” Those words truly came to life throughout the show. It is always amazing getting to see musicians doing their craft in real time and I feel it brings a whole new level of respect to the scene for those in the crowd who rarely get to see artists perform.
Big G ended the 2-hour set by playing a remix to Knife Party’s “Bonfire” which set the crowd off and engraved the epic night into everyone’s memories.
The venue, the music, the crowd, and the overall environment were all absolutely on-point that night at the Pageant. Budweiser’s “Made in America” tour really hit on all cylinders, providing a great experience for everyone in attendance. Robert Delong opened the show amazingly and Big G closed it out in an epic fashion. Overall, the performances and atmosphere led to a truly amazing night and experience.
Big G has a slough of other performances coming up while on tour, including killer festivals like Summer Set Music Festival, Electric Zoo, Shambhala Music Festival, North Coast Music Festival and more! The duo is also playing a decent amount of Mad Decent Block Parties around the US.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to see Big Gigantic light up the stage, then it’s time to experience some of the best genres of music mixed into one. Make sure you get tickets soon because this talented-two are drawing crowds by the masses.
