On May 1st, while in the midst of a celebration for Col. Bruce Hampton's 70th birthday, the colonel collapsed on-stage. He made it to a nearby amplifier to support himself until he was rushed away to the help of medical professionals. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after leaving the stage.
According to online sources, Bruce dropped to the ground during an encore performance of the Grateful Dead's famed song, "Turn on Your Love Light." He was surrounded by his family and dearest friends in the music industry that he's been a part of for so very long.
Photos featured in this article are of Col. Bruce sharing the stage with Zach Deputy onboard Jam Cruise 14 (2016) just two years ago. He was a staple in the jam band culture for decades and will be missed dearly.
