On Friday, August 22nd, Music Festival Central had the pleasure of covering Yonder Mountain String Band with special guests Allie Kral (Fiddle), Jake Jolliff (Mandolin) & Jerry Douglas (Dobro) in Baltimore, MD. As of April 2014, Jeff Austin, a founding member of YMSB, and, the remaining band members (Ben Kaufmann, Dave Johnston and Adam Aijala), according to their Facebook page “decided to move forth with a newly formed line-up due to varying career goals and creative pursuits.”
Although Austin was a favorite amongst fans for many years, the new lineup was welcomed with open arms this past weekend with a packed house at Rams Head Live, in downtown Baltimore. Only the second show on this recently announced fall tour, YMSB took the stage and opened with “Sharecropper’s Son;” a quick paced banjo ditty that set the evening’s pace for good ole’ dirt kicking, foot stomping bluegrass.
Throughout the night the band traded licks and let the new members and special guest Allie Krall of former Cornmeal fame, take the mic and spread their musical wings. YMSB is continuing their fall tour on the East Coast and throughout the Midwest through November. The group will end the year big with a run of shows in Mexico this December. Bluegrass and margaritas anyone?!
