This past Friday, November 11, Britain-bred singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Dan Croll (aka Daniel Francis Croll) opened for singer, Aurora, at Thalia Hall in Chicago.
Thalia Hall is a beautiful music venue in the Pilsen neighborhood of the city. Located directly above two bars, the hall is the ideal spot for a Friday night out. The venue has two levels: a general admission standing room on the main floor and balcony seats above.
Around 9:00pm, Dan came on stage with his band. He sat at the piano and played some indie/pop/rock tunes with serene vocals. He even pulled out the guitar for a few songs.
Perhaps the most stand-out part of the show was Dan’s voice. It is always refreshing when an artist is able to pull off vocals just as beautifully live as they sound on their album. Dan Croll’s lyrics are full of emotion and set a calming tone to start off the night. Dan’s vocals were relaxing, yet still got the crowd excited for an opening act.
The only complaint I had with the show was that he did not get enough stage time. I could have sat and listened to his chill tunes for hours, but I’m sure soon enough he’ll get the main stage cred he deserves.
