It is much regret that we inform, David Bowie (David Robert Jones) has died at the age of 69 years. According to a statement on social media from his son Duncan Jones, “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Most recently (January 8, 2016), David Bowie had released his 26th and final album , Blackstar. This brings to an end a legacy of music, art, film, theater and more. Bowie involved himself in music and bands as early as age 15 and his first hit “Space Oddity” hit the top of the UK charts in 1969 when he was just 22. From there, Bowie became known as one of the most influential artists of the present day.
Some of his most popular albums include The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, Young Americans, “Heroes” and Let’s Dance. Furthermore, Bowie involved himself and found success in theater performances from an early age. His most popular performance was a title role in the Broadway production, Elephant Man. Some of his notable film roles include Thomas Jerome Newton in The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976), Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth (1986) and Phillip Jeffries in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1991).
Just a couple years back a traveling exhibit, David Bowie Is, was displayed in select cities and featured a broad array of Bowie’s most famous costumes, art, original hand written music and photographs. The audio navigated exhibit walked a listener through the amazing life that this truly genius and significant icon IS. He will be forever be remembered by the music and art he created.
