by on

Enchanted Forest Gathering returns for the sixth time this year July 22-24 at the Black Oak Ranch in Laytonville, CA. Enchanted Forest is well-known among the boutique music festival movement, but it has several unique, distinguishing features that place it in a league of its own.

Enchanted Forest 2016 will feature over 70 live and electronic musical performances, including Shpongle, The Polish Ambassador, Ayla Nereo, Hamsa Lila, PANTyRAiD, Minnesota, Fana Fi Allah, Autograf, Lila Rose and Thriftworks.

Perhaps one of the most distinguishing characteristics of Enchanted Forest Gathering is its alcohol-free environment. The goal of removing alcohol is to create a safe space for all ages to enjoy. Festival founder, Tulku, says, “by bringing together thousands of people and removing the vibration of alcohol, we have created a truly unique gathering. We consistently get the reflection from women that they feel safe here and more free to express themselves.”

Note From the Editor:

Now that festivals across the globe are going alcohol free, taking advantage of the opportunity to attend one in the US like Enchanted Forest Gathering.  During a intense conversation with a new festi-friend I meant at Dirtybird Campout in California (alcohol friendly festival), he told me about some of the many benefits of another alcohol free festival in Canada called Shambhala.  Not only did attending Shambhala help him realize he could live a much happier and healthier lifestyles without alcohol, he also explained how nice it was to interact with people who weren’t completely inebriated.

Another important aspect of his experience, which seems to be common in dry festivals (ladies, listen up because you’re going to love this), was that not only was there an abundance of more meaningful and deep interactions with festival-goers, but he also explained how nice it was to go into a festival bathroom that wasn’t completely destroyed by drunken festival patrons.  After the excitement in his voice when he talked about such an environment, it sealed the deal for myself to experience first-hand the many benefits of an alcohol friendly festival like Shambhala and Enchanted Forest Gathering 2016.
