Festival Review : Bicycle Day 2015

by on

This year’s Bicycle Day festivities at The Warfield in San Francisco were practically dripping with creative energy on Saturday, April 18th.   Bicycle Day 2015 was a bountiful display that didn’t leave any of the senses wanting for more.

Alex Grey and his wife, Allyson, provided the soul and spirit of the evening once again with their thought-provoking visionary work. They are humble, brilliant masters of the universe and I was beyond myself just soaking up their beautiful auras.

On top of the visuals, the music at Bicycle Day was some of the best! The unique style of beat master Thriftworks got the crowd grooving early in the evening. He vibed effortlessly with his audience and they clung to every note he laid down. Desert Dwellers transported us to a whole new dimension of euphoric delight. I was impressed with the variety in their set. I quickly and eagerly lost myself in their musical journey.

Though sometimes described as ambient music, the Emancipator Ensemble killed it!! They did a fabulous job! They were a perfect band to lead into what was coming next!

In the end, the evening belonged to the mesmerizing, Beats Antique. There is a certain level of anticipatory excitement that accompanies a “Beats” performance. What tricks will they pull out of their hats to entice and seduce their audience this time? Head enchantress Zoe Jakes and company did not disappoint. Their set was, as always, the perfect cocktail of silly fun, ethereal beauty and strange that make me want to jump on stage every time to better wrap myself in its awesomeness.

Bicycle Day is a wondrous celebration presented by Euphonic Conceptions for the masses. It celebrates the life and ideals of a man (Albert Hoffman) who changed our world. It also gives us an opportunity to let go and get funky with our festi-family!
