On February 6th, Galactic (along with opening act Monophonics) took over the windy city with a massive, NOLA-style Mardi Gras celebration at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall. Galactic IS the ultimate funk band with a modern twist. Over the past two decades, this uniquely diverse group has become a staple in the scene by blending a multitude of styles, sounds and genres together to form their own distinctly new-age sound. At its core, Galactic has always been an instrumental band, with a flurry of music collaborators and vocalists rotating in and out over the years. On this particular evening, (as well as most of their 2015 winter and spring tour), the band was accompanied by miss Erica Falls, a phenomenal female vocalist also from New Orleans.
The show was killer and Music Festival Central was fortunate enough to have writer/photographer, Ashley Marie Downing, on location all night long to document Galactic’s wild, fink-filled celebration first hand.
