It’s that time of year again—where festi-goers far and wide gather in none other than New York City, to experience the musical makings of The Governors Ball Music Festival (stemming this June 5th – 7th), held on the city’s own Randall’s Island. Since its inception in 2011, Governors Ball has not disappointed in bringing big names who represent a wide variety of genres, including electronic, rock, hip-hop, indie, folk, and pop.
In years past, The Governors Ball lineup has featured artists such as Bassnectar, Passion Pit, Beck, The Strokes, Atmosphere, Guns N’ Roses, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun, and Girl Talk. This year, The Governors Ball 2015 lineup is filled with a killer blend of artists including: Deadmau5, The Black Keys, Bjork, Drake, Lana Del Ray, Flume, Florence + The Machine, SBTRKT, The Decemberists, Ratatat, Chromeo, ODESZA, Tame Impala, Little Dragon, Atmosphere, Big Gigantic, Flying Lotus, Death from Above 1979, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, and the ever-classic “Weird Al” Yankovic.
Gov Ball 2015 also features a Silent Disco area, crazy cool art installations, face and body painting, a mixology tent, photo/GIF booths, the Miller Time Lounge, and a variety of lawn games, for those who just want to keep moving.
Now you may be wondering that if this festival is on an island—how do I get there? Randall’s Island Park is located on NYC’s East River and is accessible by: the Manhattan Ferry, the Brooklyn Shuttle, subway, bus, car, biking, or walking.
