Diamond’s Pub in Louisville, KY held GRiZ’s second to last show of his Rebel Era tour and it felt like they were just kicking off the tour. Four DJs on two stages, plenty of glow sticks, gloves and hoops to go around and the best security I’ve dealt with in a long time at a show. It was a damn party.
The first two DJs, Derek Sabiston and Secret Beats, were local openers for SuperVision and GRiZ whom were touring nationally together. I didn’t know anything about either local guy to be honest but they both raised the bar to what the quality of the show was to be and they were both loud enough to probably bring in strangers off the street. Some guy on the patio kept telling me how much “they” love trap music here but I guess that can be disputed.
After the local gents, SuperVision took the main stage and exponentially threw the already hyped energy up several more notches. This is when the bulk of the crowd had arrived and he kept them moving. It was hot as a whorehouse in there. Then just to really keep everybody on their toes he goes and drops “Bulls on Parade” by Rage Against The Machine right on top of the beat which I had never heard before. That’s a gentleman’s move right there.
After SuperVision finished his tenure, GRiZ appeared with sax in hand. He looks like he just walked out of a hot box but even if he did; it has no effect on abilities. Spinning or playing the sax; which weaves in and out of the beats effortlessly. Some times a bit more prominent, other times tucked back. You could even say that GRiZ has a strange sort of musical Pong game going on between the two dynamics and neither side has won. The Detroit lad even threw some of his region’s oldies for good measure. Great light show, great tunes.
You obviously can’t see GRiZ on tour since, well, its over but it would behoove you to do so on his next run around. Music links below!
