Jack White is known to push boundaries, but this time he has took it to a whole new level. In early 2014, White released his solo album Lazaretto. Even though it has been out for almost a year now, White is still unveiling new themes connected to it. “That Black Bat Licorice,” is a single featured on the album that White did not begin performing or promoting until just recently. This week, White really shook things up when he unveiled a new, groundbreaking interactive-video for the song.
To create a truly unique experience, White technically made multiple videos for this project and morphed them into one. As the song plays, viewers have the ability to flip between three different videos by holding down the “3” and “B” keys on their computer keyboards. The base video is an animated film directed by James Blagden, and if you hit play, you’ll see a surreal animated video that utilizes White’s patented black, white and blue color scheme. Features include White cutting out his own tongue, an Egyptian Queen and dancing bats. If you get bored with that, hold down the “3″ key and you’ll then see a moody live-action video of White, he filmed and directed himself. And by holding down the “B” key, viewers will see a live-action video clip directed by Brad Holland, that includes slow-motion footage of various people headbanging along to the song.
This concept is cool and you don’t have to be a Jack White fan to see the beauty that lies within all of this.
Overall the video is edgy, wildly entertaining and completely weird. But, since you are the one in control, it’s only as weird as you make it…
