LEVITATION Festival (aka Austin Psych Fest) once again set to welcome a large list of venerated psych-rock stars, to make for a long weekend of classic Austin, Texas festival-dom. LEVITATION 2016 takes place each Spring at the alluring Carson Creek Ranch; a 58-acre haven near the banks of the Colorado River.
Just recently, the Reverberation Appreciation Society – the creative collective behind LEVITATION Festival – announced the day-by-day LEVITATION lineup, as well as, the pre-show lineup, happening April 29th-May 1st. The eclectic roster will play on the festival’s three stages: Reverberation Stage, Elevation Amphitheatre and the Levitation Tent. Campgrounds also have their own stages and schedules will be announced soon!
This year’s LEVITATION festival will get to see the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson play exalted album Pet Sounds to celebrate the record’s 50th anniversary on Saturday at the Reverberation Stage, followed by a performance from Baltimore’s Animal Collective. Prior to Wilson’s set, LEVITATION Festival founders, Rob Fitzpatrick, James Oswald, Christian Bland and Alex Maas, will perform as their band, The Black Angels.
Other highlights of this globe spanning, multi-generational gathering include La Luz and Golden Dawn Arkestra back-to-back Friday evening at the Elevation Amphitheatre, as well as, Melody’s Echo Chamber at the Elevation Amphitheatre Sunday evening. Headlining the Levitation Tent on Friday is LA’s multi-talented, Flying Lotus, and Merge Records’ artist, Caribou, on Sunday to close out the festival. Countless more artists are scheduled in the LEVITATION 2016 lineup; some include The Blind Suns, Drinking Flowers, Indrajit Banaree & Gourisankar.
Also, be sure not to miss one of the best parts of the festival experience – the kickoff shows. ‘LEVITATION’s kickoffs,’ naturally, are at the hippest venues in town: the large, big-act booking Mohawk, the punk club called Barracuda, and, the always-inspiring, Empire Control Room, plus, the Garage.
There will be 2 stages at each kickoff venue and they are all within walking distance of gorgeous downtown Austin! Catch sets from The Blind Owls, Night Beats, Ringo Deathstarr and others; brought to you by The Reverberation Society and Empire Garage. Participants can also check-out Burger Records gems like Levitation Room and the Death Valley Girls on the outside stage at Barracuda. While on the Inside, The Committee To Keep Music Evil presents Mystic Braves, Floorian, The Turns and more.
Just down the street at club Mohawk, Worshipper Cabinets presents Chelsea Wolfe, Pinkish Black, The Well, and Blaak Heat on the outside.
