The progressive electronic dance force known as Digital Tape Machine is ready to hit the ground running this summer..The Chicago based band is comprised of members from various other bands including Umphrey’s McGee, Strange Arrangement, Liquid Soul, Land of Atlantis and The Hue. Recently, DTM featuring Kris Myers, Joel Cummins, Joe Hettinga, Bryan Doherty, David Arredondo, Marcus Rezak, and Dan Rucinski released their new EP “OMENS” and it’s got fans chomping at the bit for their 2014 performances. OMENS transcends other electronic music in a way that this “LIVE” band seamlessly fuses genres of electronic, house, hip-hop, break beats, dubstep and rock.
The new EP was recored in Joe Hettinga’s home studio and was later remastered to bring out all the details on these epic tracks. Close your eyes when listening to OMENS and you might find yourself on a mystical journey into the cosmos. EP producer David Arredondo (My Boy Elroy) describes the new release as “an evolved version” of their previous EP Be Here Now. In the making of the new EP he said ” We reproduced the live versions of the songs and made them more musical”. About two minutes into the title track Omens, the producer also further describes the sound as “a moment of clarity”.
At the end of the track Big and Tall, listen for the sounds of a paradisal journey. It was actually recorded in the jungles of Hawaii on a recent trip taken by Arredondo. Digital Tape Machine truly encompasses a multi genre platform and the fusion between Arredondo’s and Myers’ beats provide a perfect backdrop for a high energy electric sound. It seems what could only be a scheduling issue due to the band consisting of members who all have other projects, DTM does not have many dates set for 2014. The band recently confirmed they will be playing late night at Summer Camp Music Festival. If you can’t make it to this performance, keep your ears peeled because these guys truly shred.
