Faithful and first-time fans alike of Movement Electronic Music Festival will appreciate the recent announcement from Paxhau Events of seven different music showcases slated for 2015. In addition to the huge bevy of talent already scheduled to perform throughout the three days in Detroit over Memorial Day weekend (May 23 – 25), audiences now will get to experience various showcases curated by local and international renowned artists and record labels.
Topping the Movement Detroit lineup for many will be the Disclosure “Wild Life” lineup, which brings the wildly popular British electronic duo to perform a DJ set, along with a roster of other celebrated artists. Hip-hop legend Method Man, Bristol’s Eats Everything and house music legend Kerri Chandler join the lineup, along with live sets from Octave One and Kenny Larkin. The Wild Life experience has proven to be top notch, selling out venues (even zoos!) across the world, with Disclosure creating a true festival experience spanning the headliners through opening acts. The Movement 2015 edition should also offer an interesting preview of the Wild Life Festival taking place later this summer in Brighton, England.
Perhaps the most well received showcase at Movement 2014 was the “Origins” lineup at the Made in Detroit stage, courtesy of Michigan techno hero Kevin Saunderson. Origins will return in 2015 with Saunderson teaming up with another hometown hero, Derrick “Mayday” May, plus an additional set from the Saunderson Brothers. Not limited to local acts, the Origin showcase will also feature Chicago house DJ Lee Foss, L.A.’s MK (Mark Kinchen) and a live set from Acid House originators Phuture. Origins indeed!
The local flavor continues with showcases presented by both Konkrete Jungle Detroit (KJD) and Detroit Techno Militia. The “KJD party” will bring the jungle vibes with performances by, but not limited to; Thread, MC’s Bombscare and Flow, Galaktis, Calico and Steven Dronez. Drum and Bassheads will be very comfortable with the KJD lineup, as the longest running Detroit Jungle/DnB outfit brings superior talent and sound every time. Grassroots collective Detroit Techno Militia will showcase local talent with a huge set by 313 The Hard Way (DJ Seoul BTB DJ Psycho BTB T. Linder) and indie label Ghostly International has a great slate on tap, with artists including the label’s co-founder Matthew Dear, Ryan Elliott, Mike Servito and Derek Plaslaiko. Movement legends Shigeto will serve up a live set too, so don’t be afraid to get down with Ghostly.
Last, but not least, are showcases from both Metroplex, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and “Detroit Love” presented by Carl Craig. Record label Metroplex is proudly celebrating its 30th year anniversary, so it was a natural fit to represent Juan Atkins at Movement 2015. Atkins will perform live as Model 500, while his daughter Milan Atkins will also lend her vocal talents on stage for the crowd’s enjoyment. Also joining the Metroplex celebration is Eddie “Flashin” Fowlkes, who is no stranger to Movement, having appeared since the earliest days of the festival. Movement 2015 will be a big homecoming for Carl Craig, who has toured across the world with his current Detroit Love concept since its formation in 2014. Craig and Mad Mike Banks on keys will bring a live of mix disco, soul, house and hip-hop, very similar to what they launched at ADE last year. Another important aspect of Detroit Love are the technical components which consists of video mapping, live editing, sampling, scratching and looping of various soundscapes.
