More than 400 music-loving fans came out to test their sea legs aboard The Spirit Of Chicago for Otter’s Yacht Party just moments after Phish played an incredible 3-set show at Northernly Island. People lined the dock in the masses eagerly awaiting to party the early morning hours away to the unique sounds of Orchard Lounge and DrFemeus.
Taking off in the wee hours of the morning for 3 more hours of non-stop raging sounds like it may be difficult to overcome, but when you’re on a 100-foot plus yacht stocked with cocktails, a buffet, and some of the best talent that’s ever played on Lake Michigan, it was no problem at all! Perhaps the only real challenge was keeping your balance while dancing to the beat.
With Spencer Lokken and Bethany Briscoe making sounds from another planet, and Allen Aucoin (aka DrFameus and formally of The Disco Biscuits) on drums, attendees stayed pleased the entire voyage. On top of the music, guests had an unreal time socializing on the outside decks and throughout the ship’s inner quarters.
One of the most unique parts of the 3-hour plus journey were the breathtaking views of Chicago’s beautiful skyline. For most, it’s a rarity seeing the city from the East, but Otter’s Yacht Party successfully opened the eyes of locals and those fortunate enough to be visiting for the first time. The gorgeous weather was another factor that made the ride even more unforgettable. After Phish had to cancel the previous show due to heavy storms, and knowing the fact it rained only hours before boarding, some feared worst that the weather would not allow the ship to set sail. Luckily, the rain held off long enough for people to carry on their night, riding waves of music and joy until the massive yacht arrived back in Navy Pier just before sunset.
Just before exiting, the loud speaker turned on and Otter made a special announcement thanking those who made it out for his magical party on the open water. Judging by the success of the event, if you didn’t get to make aboard this year, it seems like you’ll have another chance next year!
