Manhattan’s hottest new club, Flash Factory, has never felt more Western Europe than it did last Friday, April 15th when Berlin-based duo Pan-Pot brought their unique brand of party ready techno. The dark wooden interiors, which are accented with stained glass and feature a stunning light plot that’s essentially carved into the ceiling’s molding, acted as the perfect backdrop to Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix’s driving beats.
We arrived shortly after their set had begun and the music was pumping out relentlessly as Pan-Pot barreled through their discography, as well as, some techno favorites like Johannes Heil’s Transition Six, among others. Around 2:30 AM, their set took on a smoother tech vibe before they sent the crowd into a riotous frenzy once again with more banging techno standards.
The club was packed with an eclectic crowd bordering on glam, with the typical sprinkling bridge and tunnel. That said, Flash Factory’s aesthetic and the people that it attracts, make it a welcome addition to the New York City club scene, and Pan-Pot’s performance reinforced just how good techno in the city can be when you have the right place to experience it.
Of course, Pan-Pot’s set progression is so exciting and high energy that their ability to work a crowd transcends beyond just smoky, city clubs. The duo will be making a number of international festival performances this year, including stops at the Loveland van Oranje Festival in Amsterdam (April 27th), the Junction 2 Festival in London (June 4), the Melt! Festival in Leipzig, and, the Sonus Festival in Croatia (August 21). They will also help Ibiza kick off HYTE by bringing their talents to the official pre-party on June 1st.
