After conquering California with Coachella, festival curators at Goldenvoice are looking to have a major presence in New York City as well. A few months ago, the concert and festival promoter announced Panorama NYC 2016, a new event that will take place at Randall’s Island in the Big Apple this July 22-24. The timing means that this new party will compete with Governor’s Ball, which is returning in June with a stellar lineup. Today, Panorama’s inaugural billing was finally revealed, and it’s pretty spectacular.
Festival organizers are looking to attract huge crowds with a sizable list of bands that spans several different genres. There is hip-hop (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q), rock (Alabama Shakes, The National), R&B (FKA twigs), dance (Major Lazer, LCD Soundsystem), and pop (Sia), which should ensure that there is a big name for everyone.
It’s a bit odd that Goldenvoice didn’t simply take Coachella to NYC, opting instead to create a new name, but none the less, this is bound to be a big deal for the country’s largest city. This is good news for music fans in the area, who now have two major events that they won’t need to travel for, but it could be bad for both Governor’s Ball or Panorama. It is yet to be seen if there is room for two summer festivals back to back.
Panorama 2016 tickets go on sale this Friday at 12 PM EST, and they are sure to sell out fast. GA three-day passes are priced at $369, while VIP ones are $769. It’s a bit on the pricier side, but what you get for your money makes it seem worth it.
