Phish tour 2015 is well underway and it seems the boys have brought their A-game this year. Fresh off the heels of his stellar performances at the Grateful Dead’s Fare Thee Well events, Trey Anastasio is continuing his jaunt as one of the best guitarists in the biz, with spectacular performances in Oregon, California and Texas. Don’t sleep on the other guys in the band, though; Mike, Page and Fishman have all been contributing to the perpetual machine that is Phish.
Whether it is through their playing or writing, the band as a whole is firing on all cylinders going into the second leg of tour and has proven to fans that they aren’t slowing down anytime soon.
To many fans’ surprise, Phish decided to unload a huge cache of unreleased material for 2015 tour–a bold and uniquely “Phishy” move. The band held nothing back on opening day in Oregon, playing a handful of those new songs seamlessly the first night. Phish is also unique in their ability to incorporate new songs into sets with tried and true staples, positioning them just perfectly to meld with the rest of the songs, creating a dreamscape of sound like no other band.
Perhaps on of the most comprehensive tours in recent history, Phish tour 2015 takes the band on a different route than in past years. Although the band is ending things in a familiar fashion, 3 nights at Dick’s Sporting Goods Arena in Colorado, the meat of the tour takes place in some unfamiliar places. Texas and California are getting some much-needed love from the boys as well as much of the South with stops in Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri and Georgia.
Phish will make their triumphant return to Alpine Valley in Wisconsin this summer as well, a beloved venue by band and fans alike. The East coast will be getting the rest of the shows, with shows in Philadelphia, Maryland and North Carolina, all of which lead up to the event of the season, Magnaball.
Magnaball is the first festival Phish has hosted since Superball in 2011 and is guaranteed to be a huge party. Fans will be once again gracing the grounds of Watkin’s Glenn International Speedway for 3 days in August for this monumental event, which will close out the tour until Dick’s takes Phish is really pushing their boundaries this summer.
With the release of all this new material, new stomping grounds and Trey’s inspiration stemmed from the Fare Thee Well shows, it’s hard to imagine what Phish might do this summer, musically. Grab yourself a ticket and find out for yourself!
