Pokey Lafarge and the South City Three

Live at Space

Evanston, IL Nov. 22nd, 2014

Pokey Lafarge is no doubt proof that old-time music is far from dead, and here to stay for the indefinite future. Pokey is keeping the roots of Jazz, Blues, Swing, Ragtime, Americana and more alive while at the same time forging a new path for the future of music. This is the legacy that Mr. Lafarge and company are defining, as well as preserving at the same time.

A true entertainer, musician, vocalist, and songwriter, Pokey Lafarge left no holds barred Saturday evening in Evanston, just north of the Chicago border on Lake Michigan. Space is without a doubt one of the better small venues not only in the Chicago area, but also in the entire country, and Pokey and the South City Three thrived in the atmosphere built for acts just them.

Still reeling off the 2013 release of his self titled album on Third Man Records he performed several tracks off the record including; Central Time, One Town at a Time, and Let’s Get Lost. The band also dove into some older cuts off past albums such as Sweet Potato Blues, Old Black Dog, and La La Blues. The highlight of the night was Josephine, a mellow, soulful track off 2006’s album entitled Marmalade.

Pokey’s outstanding 5-piece band consists of Joey Glenn on Bass, Adam Hoskins on Guitar, Ryan Koenig on Washboard, Harmonica, and snare, TJ Muller on Cornet and Trombone and Chloe Feoranzo on Clarinet and Saxophone.

Pokey and the crew are currently recording their next album on Rounder Records in Chicago, which is due out next spring. His next two performances will be in St. Louis on December 11th at the Songbird Cafe, and on Dec. 31st with the band at First Night Festival. Don’t miss Pokey Lafarge’s live performance and pick up an album or two; I promise you won’t be disappointed.
