It’s that time of year again gals and ghouls. The sweet sweltering heat and vibrantly gorgeous scenery of magic on display in Zilker Park is reigning us in once again. Fifteen years of Austin City Limits Music Festival comes to a head in 2016 with a collection of artists so vast and unforgivingly phenomenal it’ll knock the dust off of your… ears. So gals slip on your high waisted shorts and bralettes, and guys grab your freshest straight-billed hat and zip up those skinny jeans because sweet baby Jesus, this is going to be one for the books.
It goes without saying that we have all been blessed by the ACL Festival organizers to afford us the opportunity of swaying to the tunes of and achieving catharsis with Radiohead. Despite what Vice News says (about being pretentious and washed-up), Radiohead still stands as a behemoth in the industry and releasing their first full length album, A Moon Shaped Pool, since The King of Limbs in 2011. I could go on forever, yet I digress.
Among the giants bringing us that humbug-moonlight-music are the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Cage the Elephant, Cold War Kids, M83, Mumford & Sons, Young the Giant, and Die Antwoord. I can’t even begin to gauge, and describe yet, the sheer scope of sorcery that will take place in the festival grounds- only understood to me by the pit of longing in my stomach that can only be satisfied by the thunderous amplification that will take your breath away if you’re lucky.
With most of the headliners gracing the stage with their presence both weekends, make sure you’re in the right place at the right time to ensure an unparalleled festival experience. With Blue October and Chris Stapleton playing Weekend One only and Willie Nelson and AWOLNATION filling the void for Weekend Two, either weekend will inevitably impress even the most hostile listeners.
For those of you with wristbands safely tucked away in your safe, congratulations on managing to get your hands on passes, because 3-Day GA wristbands are SOLD OUT. For those without, my prayers to Cthulhu that you can scrape together some cash for the possibility of the annual student sale that festival organizers offer right beforehand. With only a few Single-Day Passes still available on their website (www.aclfestival.com), they will certainly sell out as well so grab them while they’re hot, people. On that note, I’ll be wasting no time preparing my festival schedule (which you can conveniently do on the Austin City Limits website) so that I don’t miss a lick from all of my current and soon-to-be favorites. Saddle up, folks, and Godspeed.
