On May 2nd, The Alhambra Palace in Chicago welcomed psychedelic art enthusiast, Alex Grey, his wife Allyson, and a slough of thriving DJs under the Pretty Lights Music label. RE:VISION was alike no other show as the platforms of live painting and live music came crashing together all on one-stage, side by side. In addition to Alex and his wife painting during a set, Jason Bramer painted on-stage from the start of the show until the end of the night.
As for the music, Pretty Lights Music founder Michal Menert headlined the night with ESKMO, PhuturePrimitive, Paul Basic, Psydell & Late Night Radio paving the way with bass drops and womps. Visuals that enhanced the night’s art and music were brought to you by the crack team at RadioEditAV.
The Alhambra Palace was a perfect venue to bring emphasis to the psychedelic art being created both on a canvas and on a projection screen above the DJ booth for attendees to gaze at. The intimate space catered to about 1,000 music and art lovers throughout the night. Drinks were not allowed on the dance floor to prevent any spillage on the art, and, to separate under-agers from areas where alcohol was being served.
Creators of the artistic melting pot, In The Loop Productions and Euphonic Conceptions, did a wonderful job organizing such an event that successfully brought together a great crowd, amazing art and music, a unique venue, and talented individuals to show off their skills. WIth the success of RE:VISION, It is certain that the event organizers will continue to put together shows in the Chicago and the surrounding area; the crew also helps run Ray John.
It is no question that this occurrence was rare and few and far-between, however, judging by the success, the people behind RE:VISION will make sure a similar event goes down in the future. Just get your tickets as soon as they’re announced because with psychedelic intimacy at stake, veterans of RE:VISION 2014 will jump on the opportunity to be a part of the extraordinary visual experience year after year.
