Rakastella, born from underground tastemakers Life and Death and Innervisions, charts its return to Art Basel Miami on December 7. A beacon of top class curation, the soirée continues its tradition of bringing avant garde shades of electronic music to the idyllic shores of the Historic Virginia Key and becoming the must attend closing party to Miami’s Art Basel.
Âme’s Frank Wiedemann will make a rare trek stateside for Rakastella, representing the iconic duo with his renowned live set. The Innervisions co-founder will be joined by American house pioneers and Electric Pickle veterans Soul Clap, Dekmantel icon Palms Trax, and Sustain / Release founder Aurora Halal. Burning Man favorites Öona Dahl and Tara Brooks will bring a touch of melodic deep tech to the roster.
These artists join a choice palette of dance music talent, all of whom are making their Rakastella debuts. Hessle Audio boss Ben UFO, Spanish master John Talabot, rising star Jayda G, and Mor Elian made up the event’s wide reaching phase one alongside a wondrous live techno set from KiNK.
At Rakastella, Life and Death and Innervisions have combined to create an event greater than the sum of its parts; dancing in the sand while watching the sunrise over the Bay of Miami, multiple intimate stages designed and created by leading figures in Miami’s burgeoning artistic community, exceptional musical programming and a unique crowd drawn by one of the world’s most significant art events.
Innervisions have always had a penchant for spectacular events, they were the first label to take over London’s famed Royal Albert Hall, while their Lost In A Moment party series has thrown events on remote islands and in abandoned castles. In February Life and Death also partnered with Sonar for an audio video installation and performance piece in Brooklyn. The labels’ collaboration with immersive Miami event producers Pl0t, Secret Garden and Where Are My Keys at Rakastella creates a truly unique sensory experience; wander between distinct environmental open-air dancefloors, stumble upon spectacular and whimsical art installations, all while feeling the natural beauty of the key’s white sandy peninsula and ocean breezes.
Sonically, Italy’s Life and Death and Germany’s Innervisions are two of dance music’s most ambitious collectives. Founded by DJ Tennis and Dixon & Âme respectively, they have built their reputations on singular sound palettes and ambitious A+R skills. This is espoused in Rakatella’s musical programming, which over the last two years has included some of dance music’s most dynamic and in-demand talents ranging from DJ Koze, Octo Octa, DJ Harvey, Virgil Abloh, Seth Troxler, Gerd Janson, Young Marco, Ry X and many more anchored by performances from hosts DJ Tennis, Dixon, and Âme.
It remains the event’s bespoke musical and experiential programming that makes it one of the year’s most celebrated parties. Consistent with last year’s sunrise back-to-back journey from Dixon and Âme, Rakastella will welcome a unique to-be-announced pairing for this year’s iconic golden hour set.
Rakastella invites the creative worlds of music and art to lose themselves in a unique seaside escape. Dance in the sand as the sun goes down, explore a curated art landscape and enjoy a soundtrack curated by two of the world’s finest label collectives.
