What’s up festi-fans? Sorry I haven’t checked in sooner, but there was so much music going on yesterday I could not get away! From noon until 2 am I was swimming through a sea of colorful, beautifully dressed, smiling, shiny happy people from the two main stages, to the two tent stages, and back again, where I saw one act after another absolutely kill it! I barely have enough time to write this before it all starts again today.
The level is high. It is as if the acts are having a competition to see who can bring the heat and set the crowd off the hardest, and this crowd is ready to be set off. There was a long line early Wednesday full of cars, buses, and rvs blasting electronic music, which made it fun for those unfortunate souls who were stuck in it all night long. A wise man I met at a festival once told me, “The harder and longer the journey, the more enjoyable the experience will be once you get there”.
I am glad I remembered my earplugs, because that is the only way to get any sleep around here. I put them in and block out the sound of the all night partying, then the Bass coming from the incredible sound system here gently vibrates me to sleep. The weather is good, the grounds are a little muddy from rain early in the week but I am sure things will dry up.
Now on to the music, let’s just say that everyone got their money’s worth yesterday alone. And as I said before it didn’t matter where you were because all the acts were good, but if you hung out near the main stages then you know what I mean when I say, “Holy music!” Digital Tape machine started the day off right with a killer set that had everyone dancing in the sun. Rubblebucket and Cosby Sweater kept it going until the Umphrey’s Mcgee, STS9, and The Disco Biscuits brought the house down along with the sun. It was an amazing sight to see this place light up and really come alive once it got dark. The stage lighting and visual effects were incredible and the glowing art and clothes creations were just as impressive. We all flocked to the big tent see Dillon Francis, playing his third Bisco in a row, rock this place well into the AM with some in-your-face bass (kept me dancing long after I thought I thought I had nothing left in the tank).
Today the buzz is all about The Disco Biscuits-Bassnectar sandwich (Disco Biscuits play multiple sets throughout the weekend and will play before and after Bassnectar tonight), followed by a late night Lotus set to finish things off. But there are many great acts throughout the day like The Werks, Paper Diamond, and Thievery Corporation who is filling in for Animal Collective who had to cancel due to illness.
A word to festi-goers young and old, and to everyone else out there in the world now that I think about it. Pick up trash. Pick up your trash, pick up other peoples trash, and gently remind others to pick up theirs. It may not be our job, meaning it isn’t something we are being paid to do, but it is our job to respect the people and places we are around, and that means cleaning up our mess. If we all do a little bit, a lot will get done, and we all will have a better time.
Well fest-folks I gotta split, because the music is about to start, and I want to ride the ferris wheel and get a veggie burrito before it does. That’s how it is at Camp Bisco 2013, I will check in again soon, Peace!
