Rockstar Uproar Festival Review – 9/11/13 – Mountain View, CA

Central California’s rock fans gathered with much enthusiasm for the 3rd to last show of the Rockstar Uproar Festival Tour.  Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA hosted this stop of the 25-city tour.  The scenic landscape and great bay area weather helped make this all-day party quite the uproar!

On the grounds surrounding the main stage, two full stages were geared up with all the bells and whistles to deliver an amazing spectacle.  The sounds coming from the “festival” stages really got the crowd roaring before the main events.

Danko Jones’ set shook things up in a mellow way; their eclectic and vast inspirations truly came out in their tunes. Brooklyn based via Copenhagen, New Politics, played a really high-energy, pop-punk esc, set.  They’ve got a fairly unique, light sound, with some catchy lyrics to match; the combination had the crowd jumping all over. Following the fist pumping set next door, The Dead Daisies from Sydney, rocked their set out in a major way.  These guys can shred but still have a really soulful vibe.  Frontman Jon Stevens even rocked out with a broken foot and wrist, saying he “feels like a kangaroo now more than ever.”

Around dusk the crowd wandered into the 22,000-seat amphitheater, paired with a huge lawn area for the festival’s headliners.  First up was Circa Survive, a 5-piece group from the east coast.  Woo-ing melodies mixed with deep and technical musicianship swarmed through the crowd.  Lead vocalist, Anthony Green delivers the lyrical messages in just a way that captivates the ear and the heart.  Very grateful and expressive of such talents, the band played like they were truly happy to be there.

Next was Coheed and Cambria, or so it was booked.  Their drummer was unable to make it, so instead of a rowdy metal set, we got a beautiful set of acoustic versions of the group’s classics.  Making the changeup even more special was the accompaniment of singer Claudio Sanchez’ wife Chondra Echert.

After a short intermission, Jane’s Addiction revved things up without delay!  In epic fashion, all the original members rocked out the night away and gave a great performance.  Ladies were swinging from the rafters as guitarist Dave Navarro (in prime form, shirtless and smoking a cigarette) shredded his way onto the stage.  Perry greeted the crowd and was full of smiles and love throughout the whole show.  A really tribal jam including a steel drum interlude the set and was equipped with suspension artists parading about while the girls got burlesque-friendly with the band.   To close the night Alice in Chains rocked the crowd with all the hits.  The technical playing and strongly delivered vocals gave festival-goers exactly what they came out for and had everyone singing along.

All in all, what a show!  Make it a point to attend a Rockstar Energy Drink event as they sweep the nation providing bursts of energy and rock music for all to rage to!
