Nearly 6,000 signatures have been issued by dedicated Deadheads that want camping to be allowed during The Dead’s Fare Thee Well (aka Dead50) concert series at Chicago’s Soldier Field this July 3rd – 5th. In addition to just a place to house nearly roughly 70,000 Deadheads, this is a huge opportunity for the city to bring in revenue and create jobs.
According to Change.org, the 3 shows spanning over 4th of July weekend can potentially bring in $50 – $100 million dollars. In addition to the monetary opportunities the Fare Thee Well shows will bring about, the celebration would be a great thing to attend over 4th of July weekend without being on the road.
If the petition reaches its initial goal of 7,500 signatures, people who are attending the concerts are that much closer to not having to worry about traveling all over a huge city on the deadliest weekend of the year. Yes, 4th of July is a busier night for drinking related deaths than New Year’s Day.
For the above reasons and many more, people should do whatever they can to help The Dead’s 50 year celebration go as smooth as possible, one way to start helping right now is by signing the petition.
