Taking place in Addams/Medill Park on June 9th - 11th, Spring Awakening Music Festival (SAMF) will feature six specially curated stages all catering to a different side of the electronic atmosphere. For those that choose to soar through that atmosphere with a sense of euphoria and melodic undertones will find a home at The Trance Arena. This outfit brings some of the most innovative and forward-pushing acts in the genre with top notch production and visual aesthetics to various venues and festivals.
The Trance Arena takeover is scheduled to take place on day two of the festival and will highlight some fresh names in the genre as well as former Grammy-Award winners. Get familiar with your Trance additions to the SAMF lineup here:
Ratanjit Gupta
This Chicago Trance resident has been featured at many local clubs and venues throughout the city. Additional sets include opening performances for the likes of Aly & Fila, TyDi, and Ben Nicky. His pulsating tempos are as hypnotic as his clever use of faders and heavy bass punches. While also a mainstay in the local trance arena, Ratanjit is also Owner & host for his very own series aptly named Dirty & Divine Radio. Be sure to catch this undercard for a taste of Chicago Trance heaven.
Mario Florek B2B Pete Kontor
The only B2B listed for this year’s festival feature is two of Chicago's hardest working trance music producers. Mario Florek curates and promotes the Global Tranzit vessel that explores the deeper darker sounds of Trance, Progressive and Techno inside Chicago's own Smart Bar. While Polish import Pete Kontor has been lighting up Chi-Town dance floors at clubs like The Mid, Vision and Castle, which eventually led to a well-deserved nomination of Best Producer (Remixer) by Chicago Nightlife Awards in 2016. These two DJ's are local trance favorites and have a rich history together including B2B Trance Arena sets at the SAMF in year's past.
Kenneth Thomas
Kenneth Thomas is another busy man in the Midwest Trance family. This Detroit native not only composes epic Trance journey's, Thomas also runs his own record label IAMPHOENIX where song releases run in the similar sounding vein as Tiësto, Tritonal and other Trance mainstays. A welcomed addition to the Trance Arena stage, as his set is sure to be a classic voyage through the genre.
MaRlo
Hailing from the Australian outback comes the standout sounds of MaRlo. A celebrated producer on Armin van Buuren’s Armada Music label, MaRlo blends the genres of Trance, Tech-Trance, Hard Trance and Big Room into a wildly innovating mixture. MaRlo has been wowing crowds from Ibiza to Amsterdam and is bringing his Trance wizardry to the Trance Arena at Spring Awakening.
Andrew Rayel
Another member of the Armada Music family featured on the Spring Awakening 2017 lineup is Andrew Rayel. Rayel is a young Trance prodigy who has been credited for being the modern-day Mozart of electronic music. Combining elements of melody, harmony and energy, Rayel is sure to capture a crowd inside the Trance Arena.
Paul Oakenfold
A true pioneer of the genre, Paul Oakenfold has been at the forefront of Trance for decades. Founder of Perfecto Records, Oakenfold's works and influences can be found on everything from film scores to pop songs. This will be a special performance for the Grammy-nominated producer as he takes the stage behind his forthcoming multimedia project "Generations" which encompasses his role throughout the past 30 years of dance music. The Trance Arena is what is today because of DJ's like Oakenfold. An absolute can't miss set during SAMF weekend.
Paul Van Dyk
Taking his rightful place headlining the Trance Arena stage is the legendary dance music creator Paul Van Dyk. One of the most respected names in the genre and Grammy-Award winner, Paul Van Dyk has been pumping out sonic soundscapes for over three decades. The producer runs his own label imprint, Vandit Records, and continues to tour the globe annually at the forefront of the genre to this day. The standard-bearer when it comes to Trance, SAMF knew what they were doing when the listed Paul Van Dyk as the arena leader.
