The mood was electrifying upon entry into UIC Pavilion’s massive venue, as Steve Aoki and an arsenal of talent were primed to kickoff the Aokify America Tour in Chicago on Friday, October 4th. This particular tour opener set the bar to the max. Steve Aoki, Pharrell Williams, Borgore and Waka Flocka Flame all brought the heat to make sure the tour started with a bang.
Waka opened show up strong with his unique style of lyrics and flow. Borgore kept the vibes going by delivering an incredible set. In case you were wondering, yes, he played his hit collaboration with Carnage, “Incredible.”
Without a doubt Pharrell Williams showed up with his A-game. On top of his talent he had a beautiful DJ with him by the name of I Am Other, and, he was rocking a pair of snakeskin deck shoes that gleamed in the bright lights throughout the remainder of his stellar performance. Thankfully, fans got lucky that night when Pharrell nailed Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” from their new Random Access Memories album that he is featured on.
After the crowd got their nerves back from being blown away by the trifecta of different sounds, rhythms, and beats that rattled the walls, Steve Aoki took the main stage. Instantly, the crowd was jolted with excitement and the cheers began to roar. Steve came out as animated as ever and seemingly ecstatic to start his mission to deliver beats and bass across the country.
Track after track, bassdrop after bassdrop, Steve raged his music loud and clear throughout his showcase. Playing his classics to brand new material like his recent collaboration with Linkin Park, he ‘Aokified’ the crowd for the entirety of his set.
As hoped for, the birthday cake, blowup raft, and blowup air mattress also made an appearance above the crowd. As one can imagine, all parts of Steve’s show are in a league of their own.
Steve has traveled all over the world this year and has hit festivals like TomorrowLand, TomorrowWorld (the US’s version of the Belgium EDM festival), Ultra Music Festival, Lollapalooza and many, many more. To keep himself and his fans pleased, Steve wasted no time to head out on his Aokify America Tour.
Steve will continue his tour by traveling south towards Texas, then east to New York and Canada, then head west to California, then the Aokify America Tour will bring it back north for a final show in British Columbia. If you are fortunate enough (which I’m sure you are if you live in North America) to be residing within the massive tour of talent, do yourself a favor and make it to a show (or 2, or 3!).
The Aokify America Tour will also be featuring other performers to help destroy the stage. Additional acts from Steve’s record label, Dim Mak, which will be featured on tour, include Felix Cartel, Autoerotique, Dirtyphonics and more!
Tickets for most events are still on sale, but you must hurry because with talent like this traveling near and far, each show is sure to highly anticipated and unlike any other. Don’t hesitate, get your tickets now and prepared to get Aokified!
