Nothing gets more stoke-worthy than the ever-so epic 4-day Symbiosis Gathering held on a lake at the Woodward Reservoir in southern California. The venue that has added so much to the experience at Symbiosis will host the event for the second year running this September 17th – 20th. As a veteran of the famed festival, the venue change-up really is a big deal. “Swimbiosis” is even boasting a stage of its own this year, complete with floating things to play with!
Featuring most of the gods of house, bass, funk, and everything in between, the Symbiosis 2015 lineup is ridiculous. The house lineup alone could be the best thing that ever happened to house lineups (Nicolas Jaar, Damian Lazarus, Acid Pauli, Four Tet, The Scumfrog, Thugfucker, plus Dirtybird Records’ Justin Martin, J. Phlip, Christian Martin, Ardalan, and seemingly infinite more). The Bass lineup is stacked with experienced artists that are proven to slay the decks (G Jones, Kaytranada, Minnesota, Cyote Kisses, Eprom, + more).
Then there is all sorts of other epic slots I would rather not miss out on like GRiZ, or The Polish Ambassador bringing funktown, or the rest of the area of performances Symbiosis is calling “Electronica Fusion” including Coco Rosie, TuneYards, Little People, Eoto, Sylvan Esso, Tipper, and an extravagant collection of creative (and largely live) acts. Then there is their “Downtempo” lineup which includes Shpongle, Emancipator Ensemble, Random Rab, Thriftworks, and there are “World” and “Progtrance” lineups just in case there wasn’t enough of an assortment already.
Recent headlines claim that Nicolas Jaar ‘saved FYF’ and it is easy to imagine why stories float around as people sell their Burning Man tickets so they can get to Symbiosis instead. I don’t imagine Symbiosis will need any saving with a lineup like this for their ever-so-special 10-year reunion.
Symbiosis is famous for providing more than epic music each year. Their lineup for workshops includes The Yes Men and Amy Goodman, and a discussion/presentation series that includes Cacao Tasting, Alternative Reality Gaming, Edible 3D Printing, Permaculture, Cybercurrencies, and a bunch of other intriguing subjects.
We should likely dedicate a paragraph to Lucent Dossier Experience and the other performance art lined up. Lucent Dossier is basically an insane, in-your-face, soul-moving performance based art form that enraptures your body while you’re just innocently at its grips. Super Tall Paul and his Jive Joint are the ultimate way to laugh your pants off and sit down in between dance marathons. Rumor has it that Danimal House will be there, too! If you haven’t heard of it, you should find it and participate! The rest of the performance lineup completes the easy rationalization of attending Symbiosis 2015 (even if it means ditching Burning Man).
