The sounds of loud cheers sailed out the door of the Tonic Room as the New York based band, TAUK, played for a packed house inside. The intimate setting of Chicago’s Tonic Room blended well with the crisp tones of guitarist Matt Jalbert.
The combination of stellar sounds and vibes set the pulse on the dance floor that night. Drummer, Isaac Teel aka Mr. Birthday, engaged one attendee when he reached across his drum kit for a warm hug before continuing his shred session.
Keyboardist, Alric “A.C.” Carter, and bassist, Charlie Dolan faced each other from across the stage as they delivered well-coordinated progressions that created a solid mixture of sound the lasted the entire show. From hits off their fist record, Pull Factors, to tracks off their brand new record, Homunculus, TAUK entertained the crowd from the first beat of the drums to last stroke of the keys.
The group wooed the audience with a cover from The Beatles called “She’s So Heavy.” The mind-blowing cover is paired with a music video featured online and has been recognized on a national scale. After seeing the cover live, there is no surprise to the track’s success.
As the night unfolded the music got heavier and the majority of the crowd could not help from moving to the band’s chunked-out melodic rhythms. Currently acting as a purely instrumental band, TAUK, amazed people by their showcase of raw skills and talent. The group could not have been anything but proud of their performance, as the show successfully built its momentum from start to finish.
After sharing the same set time as the Rolling Stones who were playing across town at the United Center, the group packed up to head East to continue their tour and get prepped for three big shows with the legendary Robert Randolph and The Family Band. On August 2nd, Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club will host the first of the three shows. The other two shows will bring the boys close to home as they are scheduled to play The Wilbur Theater on August 9th in Boston, and The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, New York on August 10th.
TAUK is well on their way to unveiling their talents to a much broader audience as they continue to unleash their unique take on instrumental rock fusion music throughout America. It was truly a pleasure to see a group that is so prominent, play in such a cozy venue, so early on in their career. Their ambition and musical gifts are set to propel the band to new heights in the live music scene.
This summer you can see TAUK at festivals like Destination Moon Music Festival, Floyd Fest, and MazzFest Music Festival, or, at one of their many performances out East. If you’re looking to witness the evolution of a band bound to succeed, then TAUK may be just for you.
