The original and founding fathers of funk, The Original Meters, are scheduled to reunite this April at the newly renovated Orpheum Theater in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 22nd. Art Neville, George Porter Jr., Leo Nocentelli, and Joseph Zigaboo Modeliste are all considered music legends in their own right. For fifty years these guys have been bringing the funk to the whole world.
The last rare performance from the whole group was seen in May 2012 in a very rare club show. The upcoming performance will be one for the history books as The Original Meters kick off the Jazz Festival season in the Orpheum Theater, which has been out of commission since the devastating and destructive force of Hurricane Katrina deemed it no longer occupiable.
To make things just a little bit funkier, The Original Meters will be joined by some very special guests Ivan Neville with the horn section of Tracy Griffin, Jeff Albert, Khris Royal, and Clarence Johnson III. Ivan Neville son of Neville Brother, Aaron Neville, is the founding member of an acclaimed funk band Dumpstaphunk. Ivan has been keeping the family tradition of live funk and Dumpstaphunk is tearing up the festival scene globally.
