The Pixies have been on an absolute onslaught as of lately, touring relentlessly all across the world in support of a bunch of new material and reignited creative torches. Continuing with their extensive touring, The Pixies have exerted their efforts through May and most of June, catching up with cities missed in the last few tours as well as playing a few dates with famed Led Zeppelin lead singer, Robert Plant. The band will be making a few stops on the festival circuit as well, staking claim to Shaky Knees Festival, Beale Street Music Festival, Sunfest, Big Guava, Boston Calling and Sweetlife Festival, all taking place throughout May.
The Pixies have promised to catch up with some old friends this time around. In doing so they are playing in cities that may have been missed the first few tours in the last few years. The South is getting some serious love in the beginning of May with dates in places ranging from New Orleans at The Civic Theatre, Louisiana to Cleveland, Ohio and a gaggle of dates in between. After showering the South with their signature pop/rock sound, The Pixies will take on the Northeast. With 5 shows in New York at the end of May, it is safe to say these guys have the Northeast on lockdown. They will also venture to New Jersey, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maryland to round out the last leg of the tour.
After The Pixies finish up their initial tour with the Sweetlife Festival in Maryland at the end of May, they will join the legendary Robert Plant for a brief stint of dates in Canada and the U.S. capping off the whole tour in just seven dates.
The Pixies have been anything but docile these past few years. Ever since the departure of long-time bassist Kim Deal in 2013, the band has been touring with fervor and gusto and releasing new material steadily. Instead of replacing Deal with a steady bassist, the band opted to use static bassists for each tour. Most recently, Paz Lenchantin has been holding down the helm and looks to be doing quite a swell job of it.
Take some time this summer to stop in at a Pixie’s show and get a taste of some of the most influential musicians of the past few decades. Their definitive noisy, surfy pop-rock sound was so influential to the 90’s alternative rock scene it is hard to imagine where music would be without it and hits like “Where Is My Mind?” Don’t miss what may be some of the band’s best and final tours. Catch this act before it’s too late!
