This past Wednesday evening, Chicago based rock band Van Ghost came out of hibernation and performed an intimate acoustic show at City Winery (Chicago). Although opening for front man of The Revivalists, David Shaw, Van Ghost brought the crowd in early and not a seat was open in the room. The three piece acoustic trio consisted of band founder Michael Berg, Chris Gelbuda and Jennifer Hartswick.
Van Ghost’s roots are in Chicago and the energy they brought to the evening was buzzing. Under normal circumstances, Van Ghost, aka “The Ghost Unit”, plays with a full electric band on big stages such as House of Blues, Summercamp Music Festival and North Coast Music Festival. This show was unique as the acoustic trio brought a more chill vibe without falling short of any energy.
City Winery proved to be a perfect venue for this event composed of music, delectable food, outstanding wine and great company. Furthermore, the venue upheld it’s reputation as one of Chicago’s most acoustically sound rooms while the acoustic strings and soulful harmonies of Van Ghost reached every inch of space with enlightening auditory range.
It was a treat to see Berg, Gelbuda and Hartswick come together as the three are all immersed in projects of their own. Gelbuda has been keeping busy on several different studio projects in Nashville and today is playing at the Safety Harbor Song Fest in Florida. Hartswick has been tearing it up on the road with The Jennifer Hartswick Project touring with The Nth Power and Berg has been more than busy running Chicago’s best independent music promotion company, Silver Wrapper Presents. These three bring fun and exciting vibes wherever they go, so if you ever get the chance, join in for some good times. Here are some photos to recap the amazing night.
