This October 31st – November 2nd, the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park will be transformed into a ghoulish spectacle for festival-goers and Halloween fanatics to frolic through as much as their hearts desire. Picture a candy basket made for adults, if you will. One that is filled with music, visuals, and treats of all sorts. Suwannee Hulaween has got your goodie-bag covered and is ready to offer music lovers from near and far an epic holiday weekend that will set the bar for Halloween festivals to follow…or for southern festivals in general for that matter.
One intriguing aspect about this festival, aside from it landing smack on one of the best holidays for extreme music gatherings, is the lineup. The lineup is scattered with a combination music from electronic to bluegrass; a pretty big gap to say the least. The main reason this lineup is so spread-out may be because of the festival’s headliners, The String Cheese Incident. Cheese has been playing festivals for decades and have a certain type of pull when it comes to catering to their fans and their musical taste. Cheese has successfully captivated fans of both electronic and bluegrass genres, not to mention jam and jamtronica.
Talent scouts did their part when it came to backing the festival gurus with likes of STS9 and Big Gigantic. These 2 groups are part of a small ring of artists who have toured the festival scene as much as Cheese in the last five years or so; if not more. Both groups will surely satisfy the fix electronic fans will have upon entering the festivals grounds. STS9 is known for throwing incredible Halloween sets and something tells me attendees will be fortunate enough to see a collaboration including Dominic Lalli on saxophone with the 5 piece tribe of sound.
Rumor has it that all the headliners will get down together on Halloween night!
In addition to the headlining performers, an array of electronic artists fused with bluegrass sensations is in the mix to provide an incredible holiday lineup. Groups like Conspirator, Emancipator, Leftover Salmon, Future Rock and Van Ghost will be raging until the sun comes up. Plus, Steve Kimock & Friends will also be there to shred their instruments for all to be amazed. Suwannee Hulaween’s lineup is nothing short of a well-blend collision of sounds and vibes that are sure to please attendees.
On top of ear candy throughout the weekend, the festival producers Silver Wrapper and Purple Hat Productions, will make sure eye candy will be mesmerizing and plentiful. Art director, Andrew Carroll, is working with some of the best sculptors, painters, light designers and performing artists to create the first-ever Spirt Lake Promenade. The creative construction is sure to captivate the mind, body, and soul of all festival-goers who are lucky enough to take the first plunge into the visual masterpiece. The decor won’t be the only thing to feast your eyes on throughout the weekend because there will be thousands of costumes to gaze at. This year, the theme is Voodoo. That means get your tribal on and bring your voodoo dolls because this festival will be ready to invoke the spirits of music like no other.
Tickets to this Suwannee Hulaween are still on-sale, and at steal at that! To purchase tickets, you can go online through the festival’s website, or, you can buy them at the gate for $80 per day (sorry, single day tickets are not available online and do not include the price of camping). A number of ticket options are available, including Friday and Saturday ticket bundles for those who cannot attend all 3 days. Friday and Saturday ticket bundles are only $155 and do include camping.
When people so involved with nature during the madness of such an event, one can only hope festival-goers can help go green when in attendance. It is urged for people to be mindful of their waste and help cleanup whenever possible. The Spirit of Suwannee Music Foundation and Conscious Alliance are encouraging those to bring in 5 or more canned or non-perishable food items to help those in need and support Love Inc. out of Live Oak, Florida. People that do so will not only receive good karma, but they will also receive a commemorative poster.
With the holiday vibes mixed with the decor and one of the best lineups of the year, Suwannee Hulaween is sure to bring out the best in everyone in attendance. Having fun will be the least of your worries if you’re lucky enough to be attending this grand event. Do yourself a favor this Halloween and make it to the spookiest festival the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park has ever held!
