In this day and age people have a variety of options to ring in the New Year. Some choose to stay at home and spend time with their families. Some go out to really nice dinner or see a good movie. Some go to all nigh house parties. Others, however, chose to head to the Miramar Theatre to party with their “other” family. The Beyond Awesome New Year’s Eve Bash represented the culmination of a myriad of different Beyond Awesomes spread throughout the crowd. Beyond Awesome features independent artists coupled with bigger names such as Willy Joy and Buku, which allows these artists to test their mettle to a sold-out crowd. This year the featured artists included Deletah, Strehlow, Apple Country, Albydamned, The Al Gore Rhythm Method, Buku, Willy Joy, and the headliner of the night, Wick-It The Instigator.
The entire venue was filled with newcomers, as well as dedicated vets who gathered to witness the holy matrimony of a bass drop to celebrate the changing of the year. The Miramar pulled out all the stocks to christen this ultimate year, by providing VIP tickets which allowed the purchasers a chance to meet with the artists, access to all-you-can drink beer and wine, and, cheaper costs on top shelf drinks. The VIP room was brimming with good vibes of festive partygoers all night long well into the wee morning hours of the New Year.
To start the night off right the Milwaukee Noize Collective head of operations, Brandon Windorff aka Apple Country, opened the set with multiple sub-genres of house music including tech-house and electro-house to warm up the crowd. Albydamned came in and whipped the crowd into a frenzy! Within minutes, the people that began the show sitting down were standing up; finally releasing their pent-up energy. The dance floor lit up from the first spark of the DJ, and his long-haired, crazy, intense energy. It seemed like his energy was being spread throughout the room.
Strehlow was the last DJ to open before the biggest name in the dub-step genre took the stage, Wick-it The Instigator. His set at the second Summerset was astonishing and the word of anticipation spread through the crowd like wildfire. Wick-it even came out and greeted all of his fans for the New Year!
When that countdown began, enemies turned to friends; acquaintances became friends, peace and love spread throughout the audience. 5….4…..3…2… 1… The audience exploded with such merriment and cheer! It was a perfect cap to start the New Year.
And what better way to start the year than with Willy Joy and Buku?! Two artists whose Chairman of the Board tour swept across America delivering their patented blend of electronic harmony.
Buku’s intense blend of trap, incorporating key elements such as competing melodic scales creating extreme forms of dissonance, some would call this dissonance a cacophony of sound. However, with creative ears, these forms develop new sound patterns to listeners who begin to not just love, but crave the new sensation that trap brings about.
Willy Joy’s unique blend of trap and dub-step harmonized the two competing cliques that developed from the emergence of trap: the ravers and the bros. Using the common snare drum pattern in combination with dub-step drops keeps the audience on their toes, not expecting the changing of the foundational pattern or an epic crescendo dropping into a electrifying and satisfying bass drop!
A Beyond Awesome New Year’s Eve was a sensational event of electronic bliss combined with outrageous partygoers and fired up DJs. Can’t wait for next year’s NYE blowout! For more information on Miramar Theatre events please visit the miramartheatre.com.
