Texan indie outfit, Midlake, have finally released a new record to follow their 2013 LP Antiphon. The new album is titled For the Sake of Bethel Woods, and Doug Fir Lounge hosted the group's promotional tour last night in Portland, OR.
Midlake came brandishing their distinct group vocal harmonies with the confidence of veterans, and the dynamic, experimental sound they've cultivated wrought a substantial presence in the cozy lounge. In an effortless command of material, the band performed an hour and a half set consisting of songs ranging throughout their album catalogue. Between tracks, they shared news and personal stories from a nearly decade-long hiatus, which suited the intimate setting. When the setlist had been exhausted, rather than leave the stage to return again for an encore, frontman Eric Pulido announced the band would like to thank everyone and play one last song, which embodied the night's next move for most: "Head Home."
